Conyers Dill & Pearman’s Bermuda office has banded together to donate over $37,000 to the Bermuda Red Cross in support of the Typhoon Haiyan Appeal. Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms on record, hit the Philippines in early November, causing catastrophic damage.
With generous contributions from the staff, lawyers and the Firm’s Staff Benevolent Scheme and Charitable Trust, Conyers presented $37,091 to the Bermuda Red Cross, which, when matched by the UK Disasters Emergency Committee, could amount to over $74,000 in financial aid for the Philippines.
“Our thoughts go out to those impacted in the Philippines and to the Filipinos in Bermuda whose families back home have been affected,” said Julie McLean, the Director who spearheaded the Bermuda office’s fundraiser. “By contributing to the Bermuda Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Appeal, we can aid in the effort to provide food, clothing, shelter, first aid and emotional support to those in need.”
All funds received by the Bermuda Red Cross will be sent to the British Red Cross to be placed in the UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee Fund. These funds will be matched pound for pound up to a maximum of £5 million before being sent to the Philippines.
This week, Julie McLean presented Kathleen Moniz, an Associate at Conyers and member of the Board of Directors of the Bermuda Red Cross, with a cheque in the amount of $37,091.
