Conyers promotes lawyers across multiple jurisdictions

Conyers is pleased to announce the promotion of Gene DaCosta, Peter Ch’ng and Fawaz Elmalki to partner status effective April 1, 2011.

Gene is a member of Conyers’ Cayman Islands investment funds team. Peter is based in Conyers’ Bermuda office where he practices corporate law with a focus on funds and insurance. Fawaz is in Conyers’ Dubai office, and in addition to his funds expertise also has a considerable Islamic finance practice.

Gene has been with Conyers’ Cayman Islands office since November 2003. His practice includes all aspects of corporate and commercial law, structured financing, aircraft and shipping registration/financing with a focus on investment funds and private equity funds. Gene recently returned to the Cayman Islands office following a year-long secondment to Conyers’ Hong Kong office, where he provided Cayman Islands legal advice on investment funds and asset financing transactions.

Peter joined Conyers Bermuda office in 2001 and his wide-ranging practice encompasses insurance, mutual funds, private equity investment, mergers and acquisition, structured finance, banking, security and derivatives in multi-jurisdictional contexts. He particularly specialises in offshore segregated account investment and insurance vehicles and has substantial expertise in limited partnerships and counts several top-tier international fund managers, insurers, banks, pension funds and private equity fund sponsors amongst his clients.

Fawaz specialises in investment fund formation including private equity funds, real estate funds, hedge funds and Shariah compliant funds. Fawaz represents funds and their sponsors in connection with their formation and also represents institutional investors in such funds. He also has broad experience in corporate finance and corporate law matters including joint ventures and offshore structuring of Islamic finance products including sukuk. Fawaz is recommended in Chambers Global 2011 and the PLC Investment Fund Handbook 2011.
