Conyers Dill & Pearman has hired lawyer Kristian Wilson to its British Virgin Islands team as it continues to strengthen its corporate capabilities for the jurisdiction. Kristian joined the BVI team on December 6, 2010.
Kristian’s practice expertise extends across banking, finance, regulatory and commercial matters. He works with a wide range of clients including leading financial institutions, large multi-national companies and international law firms. He has extensive experience acting for both lenders and borrowers, advising on corporate and regulatory aspects of M&A transactions, and advising in respect of a wide range of entities including trusts, partnerships, corporates and cell companies.
Kristian previously worked in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP’s leveraged finance and banking team in London, where he acted for private equity groups and lenders, assisting senior fee earners in complex financing transactions. Prior to this, Kristian worked as a Trainee Solicitor in Slaughter & May’s London and Paris offices in the finance, corporate and dispute resolution groups. Most recently, Kristian was an associate in the Business Law Group of an offshore firm in Jersey.
Kristian is a strong complement to Conyers’ internationally recognized BVI practice, which has been involved in some of the largest and most complex transactions in the jurisdiction this year, as demand from clients in Russia and other emerging markets continues.
Robert Briant, managing partner of Conyers’ BVI office, commented: “Kristian’s experience and skill-set are well-aligned to meet the interests and needs of our clients. His arrival in the BVI will bring immediate benefit and further solidifies our position as an expert and sophisticated leader in the BVI. Kristian is a well respected and talented lawyer and I am confident that he will be a great addition to Conyers. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
Commenting on his move to Conyers, Kristian said: “I am thrilled to continue the momentum of Conyers’ growth as it further expands existing business and develops new clients in the BVI and globally. Conyers is well-positioned to be one of the few firms truly able to provide responsive advice on complex legal matters across the world. Conyers’ highly respected BVI practice will provide an excellent platform for challenging and exciting work.”
Kristian passed the Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School and holds an MA from Durham University and a BA (first class Honours) from the University of Kent. He speaks English, French and Mandarin Chinese. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2006 (he does not currently practise UK law).
Kristian’s hire demonstrates the continuation of Conyers long-term strategy and the continued growth of Conyers BVI’ office, which earlier this year launched a private client practice with the hire of Raymond Davern. Conyers has won numerous recognitions and accolades for leadership in the BVI, including, most recently, from International Financial Law Review.
Kristian is the latest in a series of senior and high profile hires to Conyers’ global practice in recent months, following additions in the Cayman Islands, London, Hong Kong and Bermuda.
