Conyers Dill & Pearman’s Kevin Butler and Tania Dons Contributed to the Captive Review on Cayman’s Captives Insurance Sector

November 2015 Kevin C. Butler

Kevin Butler, Partner & Head of the Cayman Islands Office, spoke about the value lawyers add in the well-established and competitive Cayman Islands Captives market. “Having lawyers involved from the early stages can add significant value” says Kevin. “There can be cost savings…by structuring a captive in a commercially relevant way from the outset, reducing the risk of regulatory costs or even future litigation”.

Tania Dons, Partner in the Cayman Islands office, discussed the Cayman Islands Insurance regulatory environment, innovations and upcoming changes that will affect Cayman captives and current trends in the Cayman Islands Insurance industry. “We are seeing a lot more movement recently in the global captive marketplace. Captives are moving to the Cayman Islands from places such as Barbados, Bermuda and Delaware.” Tania states. “There are many sound reasons for re-domiciling a captive, including tax changes,…regulatory and accounting changes or commercial drivers such as consolidation in the market”.
