The annual IFLR1000 directory rankings have been released and Conyers remained a top-tier firm for 2016, along with a growing list of lawyers who were recognised.
Maintaining our rankings across each jurisdiction and in Hong Kong in the Financial & Corporate and Investment Funds categories continues to position the Firm among the leading offshore legal advisors globally. More notably, the number of ranked lawyers has increased by over 67%.
The Firm’s Dubai office was listed in the new Financial & Corporate: Offshore category for the UAE and the Mauritius office was ranked in the Energy and Infrastructure category.
David Lamb, Partner & Co-Chairman of the Firm, Hong Kong office said: “Having experienced significant growth in this year’s rankings demonstrates our lawyers are committed to delivering first class advice to our clients”.
Narinder Hargun, Director & Co-Chairman of the Firm, Bermuda office said: “We are pleased to receive these rankings and thank our peers and clients for their recognition”.
The IFLR1000 website has stated the following for each ranking:
Bermuda: Conyers Dill & Pearman has unrivalled experience and expertise in Bermuda. In the competitive offshore legal market, where aggressive recent entrants and established firms fight for market share, even competitors acknowledge the excellence of Conyers. There is no denying that Conyers has the broadest corporate practice and is the best-established law firm in the jurisdiction.
Recognised lawyers: 10
British Virgin Islands: The British Virgin Islands office of Conyers is an undisputed leader in the jurisdiction. Office managing partner Robert Briant has almost unrivalled expertise, having served on the BVI’s Financial Services Task Force and the Securities, Investment Business and Mutual Funds Advisory Committee. Few firms can come close to Conyers on one critical metric, and this is the breadth of the client base Conyers’s BVI branch has developed over the course of approximately two decades.
Recognised lawyers: 6
Cayman Islands: Conyers is running strong in 2015 as a capable corporate law firm and a popular choice for clients in many countries needing counsel for the launch of Cayman Islands funds. Under the leadership of managing partner Kevin Butler, the firm has brought aboard many banks and companies as clients in the last year, including Exar Corporation, Amber Road, Chromaflo Technologies, SunTrust Bank, Alpha Bank, and others whose names are confidential.
Recognised lawyers: 4
Mauritius: Like its offshore contemporaries Conyers Dill & Pearman benefits from its network which allows it to offer clients a broader range of jurisdiction options for matters like fund formation and holding company structuring. The steady stream of referrals is also a useful asset.
Recognised lawyers: 2
Hong Kong: The office in Hong Kong is best known for its banking, IPO and M&A work. It has also been active in advising PRC technology companies on their listings on exchanges in the United States, and since Asia has had growth in recent years in bond and high yield note offerings, the Conyers team has acted as offshore legal advisor to Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands companies raising debt capital in the Asian debt markets.
