Conyers Dill & Pearman advised French food-products company Danone in one of the largest receivership litigations in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The dispute involved Wahaha Group, a joint venture Danone had entered into with Zong Qinghou in order to enter the the Chinese food product market. The dispute was brought before an arbitration tribunal in Stockholm and the settlement, reached in October, ended all litigation against Zong Qinghou and various companies over which he had control.
Mark Forté, head of Conyers litigation team in the BVI, assisted by senior associate Richard Evans provided advice on the BVI law elements of the global dispute and ultimate settlement. Conyers worked with a team of litigators, including Richard Millet QC. Freshfields acted in the Stockholm action while Bingham McCutchen acted in related US actions.
